The Director of Merchandisingdirects and develops merchandising plans and operational systems to achieve financial objectives and to deliver assortments that meet customer and distribution needs. He/She utilizes sales and trend analytics to develop strategies for different merchandise categories and to optimize product assortments. The Director of Merchandising develops pricing that support key strategic initiatives, launches, top sellers, seasonal campaigns, and trends. He/She partners with other functions to manage vendor relationships, identify new vendors, and negotiate favorable contract terms.
The Director of Merchandising manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. He/She creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities
Forecast and respond favorably to emerging consumer buying behaviors
Interface with senior leadership, operations, real estate, logistics, visual merchandising, marketing, and other departments and organizations as needed
Select, direct, develop, and discipline team members; coach and mentor employees and provide ongoing performance feedback
Utilize industry connections to source unique and exclusive product assortments
Foster an environment that welcomes change and that promotes high levels of ingenuity and creative thinking, risk tolerance, and collaboration
Set challenging objectives and communicate expectations
Manage productivity ranking and improve team’s performance
Rapidly grow revenue and margin for all categories
Develop and execute strategic plans for hardware and future platforms or business change
Partner with other senior leaders to build the overall capability of the merchandising team
Provide guidance, set priorities, and assist direct reports with assigned tasks
Drive strategic development, including visual merchandising and marketing
Develop appropriate financial models, budgets, and business plans when requested
Job Requirements
Expert knowledge of merchandising logistics and distribution
Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple, overlapping, and potentially conflicting priorities
Ability to understand and apply expert knowledge of business strategy
Proficient ability to remain highly effective under stress, and respond to pressure in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization
Expert knowledge of direct-to-consumer and/or business-to-business sales
Demonstrated commitment to building a diverse team that reflects our widely diverse customer base
At least 5 years of merchandising experience required, with three or more years in a significant leadership role
Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field required
Compensation: Salary, Performance-Based Bonus, Comprehensive Benefits Package. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills and may vary from the range listed above.
